In January 2024, the World Economic Forum emphasized a significant challenge: approximately one-third of the world's population, or 2.6 billion people, still lack internet access. This digital divide is a major barrier to education, economic opportunities, and overall development.

One way to help solve this challenge is by introducing standardized models so the satellite industry evolves faster to solve current and future needs. This is why we are proud to introduce the SATCOM Catalyst 5G at DTW24, in collaboration with other TM Forum members.

This initiative demonstrates how integrating 5G with satellite communications can ensure continuous connectivity, especially in remote areas where there is no internet access, and during emergencies.

Telecom software solutions to address the challenge

The integration of 5G and satellite communication networks is a rapidly emerging area of innovation and disruption, with significant efforts underway to develop this integration from both network and device perspectives. However, there is a notable gap in the OSS/BSS and network management areas, which we aim to address through our collaboration with TM Forum and advanced telecom software solutions.

Our proposed use cases focus on addressing global business needs for telecommunications and satellite communication providers, who are striving to offer connectivity services with higher resilience and reliability. By leveraging TM Forum’s Connectivityas a Service (CaaS) framework and a cutting-edge telecom software, we integrate Telco and SATCOM services into a unified commerce layer, with automated order-to-activation processes driven by intent.

A path towards a more equitable world

While the SATCOM Catalyst 5G is not a complete solution to the digital divide, it provides critical tools to move us closer to a more equitable world.

By leveraging the advancements in satellite technology and the advent of new LEO (Low Earth Orbit) constellations, supported by innovative telecom software, we can ensure more people have access to the internet or a phone connection, no matter where they are. This capability is crucial in emergency situations, where connectivity can save lives.

Thanks to this catalyst, we will ensure that the market can benefit from standardization and streamlined processes, making it easier for Telcos and SATCOM providers to deliver these essential services. The convergence of 5G and satellite networks, supported by robust telecom software OSS and BSS solutions, will pave the way for a more resilient and reliable world.

 Call to Action

As we present the SATCOM Catalyst 5G at DTW24, we highlight the crucial importance of bridging the digital divide. Connectivity is not just about access to the internet; it is about unlocking opportunities and driving development. We invite all sectors to join us in this mission, leveraging technology to create a more interconnected and equitable world.

Join us at DTW24 to see the impact of SATCOM Catalyst and learn how we can work together to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from the digital age, with the help of advanced telecom software solutions.
