Project overview

alvatross led the OSS digital transformation at MTC Namibia, leveraging TM Forum standards to ensure a future-proof and integrated solution. For two years, alvatross worked to implement a cloud-native, microservice-based platform that significantly reduced hardware requirements and operational costs while enhancing scalability and service delivery speed.
The project focused on automating service fulfillment, integrating real-time management reporting, and ensuring data integrity through comprehensive automation and a powerful BPM engine. This way, the solution provided an end-to-end unified platform, eliminating manual tasks that previously led to data integrity issues. The result was a fully automated order-to-payment process, reducing errors and the time needed for provisioning processes.

Solutions & Innovations

Alvatross implemented a modern, flexible digital platform with several key features:

Microservices architecture

It ensures scalability and faster rollout of new products, built according to TM Forum ODA guidelines.

Cloud-native solution

Flexible deployment on-premise or in the cloud, adhering to TM Forum ODA recommendations.

Catalog-driven OSS system

Automates service fulfillment and simplifies new product creation, leveraging TMF620 and TMF622 Open APIs.

Real-time management reporting

Dashboards for monitoring provisioning workflows and performance, using TMF640 and TMF641 APIs.

End-to-end automation

Reduces manual processes and data integrity issues, supported by TMF633 and TMF638 standards.

Enterprise service bus

Facilitates seamless communication between integrated systems, utilizing TM Forum SID and Open APIs.

Outcomes

The transformation led to remarkable improvements for MTC Namibia:

Contract signing time: Reduced from one week to 10 minutes, facilitated by TM Forum Open APIs ensuring seamless integration.
Offer creation time: Reduced from one month to one day, thanks to the catalog-driven orchestration and the use of a common language (TM Forum Open APIs) for the BSS and the OSS.
Hardware resources: 40% reduction, leading to lower costs and energy consumption, achieved by transitioning to a cloud-native architecture aligned with TM Forum ODA guidelines.
Operational efficiency: Significant reduction in manual processes and physical document archives, driven by automated workflows and real-time dashboards using TM Forum SID and ODA frameworks.

The decision to deploy a new, cloud-native OSS was made based on our strategy to leverage the benefits offered by the cloud in terms of scalability, security and automation. All this improves our efficiency and supports the growth of the business. The new OSS/BSS allows us to be a lot more agile.
