Onivia recognized the need to standardize its processes and operations to remain competitive in this ever-evolving market. Adopting a TM Forum-compliant architecture was key to ensuring interoperability, flexibility, and scalability while, at the same time, aligning with global standards. Alvatross, as a partner, brought expertise in implementing these standards, helping us accelerate our digital transformation to ensure our operations adhered to industry best practices.
Before the transformation, we ran into quite a few challenges. One of the biggest was dealing with siloed systems—our infrastructure was a mix of different technologies that didn’t integrate well, which made operations inefficient. Launching new products or making changes was also a slow and expensive process, which wasn’t ideal in such a fast-moving market. On top of that, a lot of our processes were manual, which meant we didn’t have real-time visibility, making it harder to deliver the best experience to our partners. And finally, scalability was a major concern. The way things were set up just wasn’t built to support rapid growth or more flexible business models. We knew we needed a change to stay ahead.
The centralized product catalog has been a real game-changer for us. First, it’s made product management so much easier—we now have a single source of truth, which means we can design, launch, and manage offerings much more efficiently. It’s also helped with consistency, ensuring that product data and descriptions are uniform across all our systems and channels. Another big win is speed—before, launching a new product could take months, but now we can do it in weeks, which is a huge advantage in a competitive market. And beyond that, it gives us the flexibility to offer customized configurations, so we can better meet the unique needs of each partner. Overall, it’s been a key factor in making us more agile and responsive.
We’ve seen some really clear improvements. One of the biggest wins has been error reduction—by automating critical processes, we’ve significantly cut down on operational mistakes. Service delivery has also improved a lot; provisioning and activation are now much faster, which means our partners get up and running more quickly.
Our collaboration with Alvatross has been incredibly valuable in several ways. First, their technical and strategic expertise has been a huge asset. Their deep knowledge of TM Forum architectures and digital transformation helped us navigate the process smoothly and avoid common pitfalls. Beyond that, their ongoing support has been fantastic—they’ve been with us every step of the way, not just during implementation but also afterward. And what really stood out was their flexibility. They took the time to understand our needs as a wholesale operator and tailored their solutions to fit, which made a difference in ensuring everything worked for us.
I believe ODA will be a cornerstone for the future of the wholesale fiber market. Its modular and standardized approach is going to be key in several ways. First, it will accelerate innovation by making it easier to adopt new technologies and integrate third-party services. It’s also going to enhance collaboration—by improving interoperability between operators and partners, we’ll see stronger, more connected ecosystems. And perhaps most importantly, scalability will be a huge factor. With the growing demand for fiber services, having an architecture that can support rapid expansion and adapt to future business models will be essential. So, it seems clear that the ODA is going to play a major role.
We’d like to thank Raul Jimenez for sharing his valuable insights on the ongoing collaboration between Alvatross and Onivia. We're excited to continue supporting Onivia’s transformation and look forward to seeing the impact of ODA-compliant solutions on the wholesale fiber market.
